Athletics day

I walked into the school grounds with Tia ready in our house colour which was blue. We were so excited because it was athletics day. We could see teachers in their colours as well. People were in class getting their house and age group written on their hands.

Mr Burt was talking to us about how we were going to do things. He then said a prayer than we went to our first activities ,group at a time. Our first event was Javelin. It was sort of hard because I didn’t really know how to throw it properly. We had a few more events which were softball throw ,triple jump ,shot put ,discuss , sprints and high jump.

My favourite activity was triple jump. It was fun because everyone was jumping around and some also fell over. It was hilarious. To get it right ,the instructor taught us three steps which were hop ,step ,jump.

After each year group finished all their activities ,it was time for the relays. There were three races ,the little kids ,intermediate and the teachers against school students and parents. At first was the was the little kids relays. Then it was time for the older students. In this relay Tainui came first then Takitimu ,Te Arawa and then Mataatua.

At the end of the day ,most people were exhausted but I wasn’t. This years athletics was full of fun and excitement.

Term 3 highlight

This term there have been a lot of events, such as The Outlook for Someday (movie making), Tamaki Tech, Extension, RWC opening ceremony and more. So many memories made, both happy and sad times.

One of my favourite highlight is badminton. Our instructor was a lady named Lorene. Our first lesson with her was about hitting the shuttle gently. It was kind of easy but so much fun. We played a game and the class had to split up in half. That game was fun and out team won. But now we don’t do Badminton anymore, we have a new Sport that we are learning about. Badminton was enjoyable.

Another one of my highlight for term three is Tamaki tech. For this term the group that I was in went to science. Our teacher is Mr Duan. I have learnt so much about nature and others. Every week we do experiments. We have been learning about starch and what types of food have it in. I have learnt that if you get stung by a bee it is good to use lemon because the bee sting has base in it.

So overall, this term has been so much fun. Filled with excitement, entertaining and enjoyable moments. Next term is the last term for us year eights in this school. I hope that we will have as much fun as we did this term but more.

Tonga vs. Canada

He received the ball from his team mate and took off with exhilaration, zooming up with excitement. Siale Piutau was determined to get Tonga ahead of their opposing team, Canada. He streamed through a clear patch where no opponents were positioned. Out of a spectacular performance, he gradually scored. But at the end of the game, the score was 25 to Canada, and 20 to Tonga.

Using Adjectives

This week, our class have been working on improving our writing vocabulary using adjectives to give our writing more action. We have been given a few photos of the Rugby World Cup first game, All Blacks vs Tonga to write about. We just have to write one effective paragraph about three of the photos. Here are the paragraphs I have done.

The crowd cheered and applauded with excitement when Richard Kahui scored an impressive try. The raucous voices of the audience called out “Go The All Blacks”, were what spectators would shout out. The amount of people that were at the event held at the Eden Park stadium were over ten thousand.

With his muscular arms, Israel Dagg repelled his approaching opponent determined to add to the score board. It was a very tense moment but with a superb fend, Dagg came out with a spectacular try.

With their strength and commitment, the All Blacks said the Haka with pride. It was such an amazing performance by them showing their facial expression. They looked very tensed seeing their actions.

Silly Sports

The bell had rung. People were already getting changed into their sports gear. Yesterday team 5 had a sports activity called Silly Sports. It was after morning tea out on the bottom field.

There were four activities to do. Our first one was with our own class. Mrs Lagitupu's game was ball tiggy. Our class had to split up into four groups. Each group got a different coloured

band. There was a yellow, red, green and blue group. I was in the yellow group. The rule of the

game was to get the other team out fast. You weren't allowed to run with the ball. My team challenged the red team. In this game, I don’t know whether our team had been defeated or not but it was so entertaining. The last game we had, we played against the green team and again we lost. In this activity, we had to communicate a lot with our team mates. It was really tiring and was loads of fun.

Our next game was with Mr Harris. It was called the three legged race. You had to be in partners

of two and one person had to hold a spoon with a tennis ball on it. Only five partners could go at a time, past the line then back without dropping the tennis ball. If you do drop the ball, you would have to start again. My partner was Helen.

She was the one that held the spoon and tennis ball. Helen and I were behind everyone else because, I couldn't quite get the string to tie around our legs properly. When we were just passed the start line our tennis ball fell, so we had to start again. The other pairs were finished and me and Helen were way behind. It was fine because we were enjoying ourselves and kept laughing all the time. This game was challenging and so funny.

Our last game was with Mrs Nua. This was my favourite activity. I'm not very sure but It was a

like a sponge race. We had to get split up into four groups then each group line up between two buckets. The bucket in front was filled with water and the one far behind was empty. We had to soak up the water and pass the sponge side ways, and then under our legs. When the sponge gets to the last person at the back, that person had to squeeze the water into the bucket then run to the front of the line and soak it with water then pass it back. This game was a lot of fun even though my group didn’t win. When we left that game, the grass was very muddy.

At the end of the sports we played, I was very tired. But I wanted to play some more. It’ll be cool if we did this again.

Sitiveni Sivivatu

Sitiveni Sivivatu was born on the 19th of April 1982 in Suva so at the moment he is 29 years old. He plays for the Chiefs, Waikato and for the All Black’s. He first came out in 2005 scoring four tries for the All Black’s which versed his birth country. His position in the All Blacks is the left wing. He attended Ratu Kadavulevu in Fiji before he moved here in New Zealand. He then went to Wesley College. I like him because he is a very good winger and he is an awesome player.

Life Caravan

This term on Thursdays for 3 weeks we have been going to the Life Caravan. The Life Caravan is a mobile class. In there, we learn about so many things like friends, puberty, how your body works and drugs . This time we learned about how bad drugs are. Our teacher in the life caravan was Lynn. I didn’t know that there were so many different types of drugs. Lyn told us a quote which is “Drugs don’t choose people, people choose drugs” by a man named Trevor. We watched a movie of Trevor talking to some kids. He was saying that there are 7 stages in life.

This was the last time that we were going to the life caravan. It was interesting and I learnt a lot of new and useful information.

Badminton

On Friday last week after lunch, room 21 played badminton in the street. Each term we have a different sport to learn and we develop new techniques about it. Last term we played Netball with Emma. But this term we have badminton and our instructor is Lorene. Our first session of badminton with Lorene was about being gentle with the racket. The first thing we had to do was grab a racket, a shuttle and start hitting it gently. We had to be careful when we pick our shuttles up because people might hit you with the racket.

After a while Lorene stopped us and showed us a trick that we had to try and do. We had to hit the shuttle up 3 times then hit the shuttle once holding the racket under our legs then hit again. I tried doing it but it was hard to do. We also had a competition. The class was split up in half. One half had to sit down and the other side had to see how much shuttles we could hit into the bin. The first game we played the opposite team won. But the second time we played, our group won.

Cross Country

The day had finally come in such short notice. Cross Country. It was Wednesday the 10th of August. The year 7 and 8's had to run a very long track. The races started around 9:30 in the morning block. I was very nervous.

For us year 8s, we had to run 3.5 kilometers and the year 7s had to run 3 kilometers. The year 7 girls and boys had left one by one. It was the year 8 girls turn to go. At the start line, we were all waiting for Miss V to say Go. Then of we went.

During the race we went through puddles, mud, uphills and down. It was really tiring. I kept stopping to catch my breath. I was running with Mui and Helen, but in the middle of the race I went in front. When I was nearly to the finish line I just jogged the rest of the way.

At the end of the race I was puffed out and just lay on the grass with the year 7 girls. A while later I went for a drink then rinsed my legs. Heaps of peoples face were red. But I reckon that this years cross country was a lot of fun. We ran a really long way and at the end of the day most people went home tired.

Holiday Highlight

Going to the movies, pools, shopping and so many other things like having sleep overs, are things people might do in the holidays. But my holiday was boring. I had nothing to do but to stay home and watch T.V or either go on the computer. The only places I went to was was Denny’s, my Aunty’s house, Albany and my Uncle’s house in Henderson. It was kind of fun at these places.

I went to Denny’s for breakfast on the first week of the holidays. We went to the Denny’s in Auckland. I was excited to go there because I hadn’t been there in ages and I was also craving for their Hot Fudge Cake. But when I finished breakfast, I was already full to eat it. When I got the Hot Fudge Cake I only ate a little bit because my auntie asked for extra sauce and it was to rich for me.

When we went to my uncles house in Henderson, we just had a feed. After the feed, I just hung out with my cousins in the lounge. Then we watched a movie. The movie we watched was The Little Fockers. Its a comedy. The movie was kind of funny and interesting. After the movie we went for a walk. We went home late, around 11 pm.

In the last week of the holidays I did absolutely nothing. I just stayed home and watched T.V and went on the Internet. During these past two weeks, it just hasn’t been the best holiday for me and was not interesting. But I can’t wait till the next holidays because I know that I will have an awesome time in Rarotonga.

Mr Burts Korero

On Thursdays, team five have assembly in the street. Mr Burt recently came back from over seas. He talked to us about three things. First ‘Gum is Dumb’, ‘Uniform’ and Schools in over seas. He told us so much about the rich and the poor schools there.

First he talked to us about Gum. People here at our school are out of control with chewing gum. There is a good reason why that gum is not allowed here at school. The reason why is because it can get stuck to furniture and it also looks very ugly on our school grounds. It is also bad chewing gum then you swallow it because people say that if you swallow gum, it will come out eight years later.

There are many schools overseas that have no money. Some schools don’t have a music teacher or even a sport teacher. Some teachers sadly get fired because the school does not have enough money to pay them. He also told us that they have teachers that only work four days a week. Mr Burt said that we are lucky to have a music teacher, also a sports coordinator and that it is a privilege to have these net books and have these kinds of working tools that we use here.

Now that he has told us about schools over seas, it is an honour being here at this school and his talk also made us feel sad about the people in other countries. Now that we know we are one of the best schools in the world.

Term 2 Highlight

This term was awesome. Heaps of fascinating, exciting and interesting occasions have happened this term. Such as immersion rotation, science roadshow, glee club, maths rotation, soccer, tamaki tech, taonga time, swimming and so much more. I have been in a few of these events which are I am Making movies 2, swimming, soccer and a few others.

One of my highlights for this term was taonga time. My group for taonga time was in Mrs Nua’s class. In her class we were learning mihi’s at first. But after learning a few lines in the mihi we were learning how to count from one to ten in Japanese. Everyone enjoyed their time and had a blast while learning how to count. The week after that Mrs Nua gave us a few questions about Japan for us to answer. It was very interesting. Something I found out about their culture was that there are special slippers for restroom usage. I found that amusing. The last time we had taonga time, Mrs Nua’s sister (Mrs London) came and taught us more about Japan. She wrote everyone’s name in Japanese. Mrs London also taught us how to use chop sticks. It was fun because we had to practise using the gummy bear lollies. I had a blast in this taonga time rotation and I’m sure everyone else enjoyed it too.

Another one of my highlights is the I am Making Movies 2 occasion. This was a competition. In this we won the award for our category. We were excited and also surprised because we thought that our movie looked like it was rushed. But after all the other awards were given out, they announced the Supreme award. Our group won it. Our teachers were proud of us.

So once again this term was awesome. I’m sure that we will have more fun next term and learn lots more.

Tamaki Tech

Every Monday Team five walk down to Tamaki College at 8:30 am for Tech. We go there to learn more about things. There are five subjects at tech which are science, electronics, food tech, graphics and wood tech. My favourite subject is food tech because we get to cook then eat. But after we cook, we write the recipe on our books.

This term the group that I am in is in Electronics. Our teacher in Electronics Is Mr Mulholtra. We have been working on a simple circuit. This circuit was supposed to be a sensor. We used copper tape, soldering iron, LED (light), multi meter and some other things to complete it. I have completed my circuit and it works.

Today the people who hadn’t completed their simple circuit or it was damaged had to get it done. But the people who finished their project had to make a poster. The poster had to be about ‘The Dangers Of Electricity’. Mr Mulholtra put some coloured paper out on the table for us to get. He helped us to come up with things to draw. We drew things that are dangerous for us to touch or be around.

Electronics was awesome. I cant wait to go to our next subject which is Science. I am sure I’ll have a fantastic time and learn much more things about technology.

Science Roadshow

Yesterday the senior classes went to a science roadshow. Each class went one by one. The science roadshow was at Tamaki College auditorium. The reason why we had this science roadshow was to learn more about our ‘Topic,Bigger,Better,Faster,Stronger’.

When we got there we had to wait outside until a lady named Laura came out and got us. When we went inside we had to sit down on the chairs. After a while they were talking to us about the temperature, how it rises and how the heat goes down. They gave us a few examples.

One of the examples they showed us was how fuel can blow up. They got a piece of paper and put the tip of it on fire then put it into a container but it didn't blow up. It didn't blow up because it had no oxygen. Then they lit a candle and sprayed fuel on the candle then there was a huge fire on it. This happened because there was heaps of oxygen around the lit candle.

There was another experiment that they showed us. It was liquid nitrogen. They also had this little metal stick with a hoop at the end of it. They also needed a volunteer. The volunteer had to put safety equipment on and put a little ball through the hoop and it dropped through the little hoop. Then the lady put the hoop thing into the liquid nitrogen for a few minutes. When she pulled the hoop thing out, the volunteer had to drop the same ball through the hoop and see if it dropped through. When she dropped the ball it didn't go through because when she dipped it into the liquid nitrogen, it decreased in size.

Soccer

The 24th, Tuesday, May 2011 was the day that the Pt England Girls Football (soccer) team had their very first football tournament. We weren’t very experienced but Mr Harris, our coach, said that we were just playing for fun and that we’d learn on the way. So, that’s exactly what we did, played, had fun and learnt more about the game as we played !

Our first game was against Ellerslie and sadly for us, we lost. But we still had 2 more games to go. After our 25 minute break, it was time for our 2nd game. This time it was against Panmure District School. In this game we didn’t get a goal but we had improved from our last game we had. On our last game we played against Churchill park. This game was our very best because we won. It was 1 - 0. Tracey got the goal in the last few minutes.

As soon as the ball got into the goal, everybody jumped around with joy and excitement ! We finally scored a goal. But the game wasn’t finished yet, we still had about 10 minutes left. So we played hard until the end...Yeah ! we screamed, we won !

Immersion rotation

This term our topic is BIGGER, BETTER, FASTER, STRONGER. For our immersion rotation, our class went to other team five classes for the chance of learning more about the topic. In each class there were different ideas about our topic.The different ideas taught in each class were Imagination, Creativity, Discovery, Innovation and Practicality. Today (Friday) is the last day of our Immersion rotation.

For our first rotation, we stayed in our own classes. The word in our class was Imagination. On each table was a big paper with questions that a few people had to go around to each of them, one group at a time. One of the questions was ‘Imagine if you had special powers, what would they be?’ This activity was a lot of fun because it made us think outside the box and invent new things in our head using our imagination.

The second rotation was on Monday in Ms Tito’s class. With her we learnt about creativity. We had to create our names individually using different fonts than other people. Each letter of our name had to have a different design. If we copied someone else, we would be disqualified from the competition. There were many out standing creations that entered.

Our third rotation was in Mr Bark’s class. Practicality was what he was teaching us about. He gave us a demonstration with some hedge clippers and he had a little story to tell us as well. His story was about his neighbour and how his neighbour would trim the weeds on his footpath with scissors instead of using hedge clippers. Then he’d ask us if it ( the story ) was practical or impractical. It was impractical.

For our last rotation we went to Mrs Nua who taught us about Discovery. Included in our lesson of discovery was an egg, straws, rubber bands, popsicle sticks and tape. With these things she gave us a challenge. The challenge was to make a protective basket sort of thing around the egg, so that when we drop it on some newspaper it won’t crack! Tragically my groups egg cracked!

Throughout our immersion rotation I learnt a lot of useful information and I also had loads of fun. My favourite rotation was Discovery in Mrs Nua’s class because the activity was to create something to protect an egg.

Albany Tornado

Devastation strikes Albany with severe damage leaving two people dead and many reported injured. The tornado hit with such strong force that it was able to rip off metal sheets of buildings, like Placemakers. Many shops remain closed, but opening soon because of the deadly tornado that occurred on February the 3rd.

There were heaps of natural disasters that I’ve heard take place like the earthquake, tsunami, aftershocks and so much more. Never before have I seen an actual tornado come about here in New Zealand. Numerous numbers of cars that night were packed on the motorway evacuating and trying to stay as far away as possible. It was pouring down with rain that same night in the upper North Island.

Joy

Friends

What I like about my friends is that they are always cheering me up when I am down and also how they always share things with me. They are very kind and caring. Although we are not the same, we still get on well with each other.

We are all multi-cultural which is cool because we sometimes talk about what we do with our families. Paulitia and Helen are Samoan, Sela is Tongan, Destiney is Maori and I am Cook Island. Because of them I have learnt so much about the Tongan and Samoan culture.

Since year 4, the 5 of us have been good friends. We all like music and enjoy playing sports like basket ball, volley and touch. But next term Destiney’s going to go and live in Australia. We are all going to miss her terribly, but she has said that she’ll come back and visit us. We have been friends since we were little and we will be friends for many more years to come!

Welcome To PE

This movie has little snapshots of what we do at Pt England school. We have done these short movies in our groups we go to every Fridays for Taoga time. The Pt England way helps us to understand how and why we respect each other. It also helps us in many ways, that is why it is important to us. Thanks for watching and I hope you enjoy it.

Camp 'Take Charge'

Camp ‘Take Charge’ was the first ever Year 7 & 8 camp here at Pt England School!

For me, this camp was a real privilege because I was a camp leader for the first time! I was a camp leader with Rayden and my crew was ‘The Carerz’. There were 6 groups, including our group, which were the Motivatorz, Thinkerz, Respectablez, Responsiblez and the Participatorz.

There were lots of fun filled activities we could do. There was hangi prep, kayaking, item practice, Indigenous games and team building. My favourite activity for the day were the Indigenous games. In this activity there were six mini games taken by Mr Harris. There was one game which had hula hoops placed around in a circle. Each person in my group had to stand in a hula hoop and throw a tennis ball to each other without it touching the ground. To win we had to do this 3 times non-stop.

At the end of the day, a group at a time walked down to the YMCA pools to have a swim and then have a shower. After we have finished our shower we would walk back up to the camp grounds and have either free time or item practice and get ready for dinner.

A hangi was what we had for dinner on the first day of camp. Each person got a little tray full of 1 kumara, potato, pumpkin, some stuffing and some chicken and pork meat. The hangi tasted nice but could of been better if there was salt in it.

The next day we had ‘Rock Up’. ‘Rock Up’ is a company that goes around Auckland/NZ with games and activities for people to do. My favourite activity that they came with was the Dunker! We had done the Dunker last year and everybody enjoyed it! Luckily for my group, we had The Dunker as our first activity. When it was my turn I got very nervous. I could feel butterlies fluttering around in my stomach. I sat on the wooden plank that divided me from the water, waiting for someone to hit the target and get me out. The first person stepped up with the ball ready in their hand and they took their shot. Next thing you know I was floating in the pool of water. I got out on the first shot!

On the last day of camp, Mrs Nua gathered everyone into the street (Intermediate block). She told us who came first and last out of all the groups. The Thinkerz came first and my group The Carerz came 3rd! That was a real surprise. After Mrs Nua told us all the notices and things we needed to know, she let us go and get our bags. We left for home. I was pretty sad to leave but I was kind of happy as well because then I could go home and have a nice good SLEEP!

Tamaki Tech

Yesterday was the first day of tech for 2011. It was also the first time our year 7's. Every Mondays from now our year 7 and 8 student's from pt England school walk down to Tamaki college for Tech. At Tech there are many different subjects such as food tech, electronics, science, wood tech and graphics.

My group was in graphics first. Our teacher was Ms Ferguson. In class we learnt about rendering colour's and also how to make something look 3D. We had to draw a cube and colour it in. One side dark another lighter and the last side lighter than the medium colour. We did this so that the cube will look 3D.

Hello my name is Kezia Teono and I am 12 years old. My nationality is Cook island. I have 4 sisters, and they all live in Raro with my mum. I stay here in New Zealand with my grandparents and my cousin.

Fia fia night

I could hear the sound of people from the audience cheering for the first group on, which was the senior Kapa Haka group. “Yay!” It was finally Fia fia night.

I was in the waiting room with the rest of my group getting changed. I was very excited. When we were all ready we had to wait until it was our turn on stage. Listening to the crowd made me nervous. I was in the tectonik group. We were all waiting back stage while the Samoan group was making their way off stage. I had butterflies in my stomach as Mr Burt announced that it was the tectonik group’s turn. But when I walked on stage I felt alright.

Hearing everyone cheer was awesome. But at the end of the night after everyone had left it was silent. Fia fia night was over and it was a success.

Athletics Day

Red, Yellow, Green and blue were the four main colours worn by students. Te Arawa, Takitimu, Mataatua and tainui are the names of the house colours. “It’s finally athletics day”, I said to myself.

As I walked in the 12 year old line I was nervous. The first sport we played was the softball throw. I picked up the ball and threw my hardest, it did go far but not as far as Helen’s throw. She came first in the softball throw for the 12 year old year 7 girls.

There were heaps of sports to play such as discus, shot put, high jump, softball throw and a few more. But there was one that was new to us. To me Javelin was hard. I didn’t know how to flick the javelin. When I threw the javelin it wasn’t a good throw.

This year is the first time in Pt England school to have year 7 athletics. To us it felt normal. We just had to be with the year 6 girls in three groups. At the end of all the sports the people that were the final runners raced. It was cool seeing their facials. After they finished, the fast runners for each house ran in the relays. Takitimu came first and Tainui came second.

The relays had finished and Mr Burt told everyone to sit in the middle of the field. After he said a little, he dismissed each class one by one. At the end of the day everyone was tired and exhausted. of the house colours. “It’s finally athletics day”, I said to myself.

While I was standing on the escalator going up, I was very excited. It was a Thursday night and my two sisters and I were off to the movies at Sylvia Park, to watch Karate Kid.

When we were in the cinema’s sitting down on our seats we had to wait for a while because we were early. While I was sitting down waiting for the movie to start I was eating caramel popcorn. Then the movie finally started.

I sat being entertained by the big screen. In the movie Karate Kid, the main actor is Will Smith’s son. But in the movie his name is Dre and in the beginning the Chinese boys kept beating him up. In the middle of the movie he was trained for a tournament. At the end of the movie he had won the tournament.

Volcanoes are mountains that erupt. It is a vent in the earths crust through witch magma and gasses erupt. The word volcano comes from the god of fire, Vulcan. Volcanoes are all over the world. Most volcanoes are on the edge of the tectonic plates. Some volcanoes form on hot spots.

How are they formed?

Below the earths crust the pressure of the magma builds up. It then is forced up and it makes a vent in the earths surface. After it has erupt the lava then dry's up and forms a mountain

How does an eruption occure.

An eruption happens when the pressure builds up inside the magma chamber. When the pressure is high it makes the magma thick and gooey. When the pressure is low in the magma chamber the magma gets thin and runny. When it is like that, it flows more easily.

The different types of volcanoes.

There are different shapes and sizes of volcanoes. The three basic types are shield volcano, cinder cone and stratovolcano.

The shield volcano got its name because people thought it looked like the shape of an ancient warriors shield. The shield volcano is low in silica. They are shallow sided and has a flat bottomed crater. It has a long fluid lava flow witch can also flow into sea. Shield volcanoes can also be found on the ocean crust.

Cinder cone volcanoes are the smallest volcanoes. These volcanoes are formed by low silica magma that is runny. They are steep sided volcanoes that are cone shaped.

The stratovolcanoes are the most famous volcanoes. Mount St. Helens, Mt Vesuvius and Mt Fuji are stratovolcanoes. When it starts to erupt it begins with an explosion of ash and cinders. These volcanoes are often found on subduction zones.

Volcanoes are amazing. I feel lucky to be living in Auckland. There is one volcano that is nearby named Maungarei.

The Dunker

Missing the target three times in a row wasn't as easy as I thought it would be. It was time for both teams to swap over. When it was my turn to be the dunkee, I felt a bit nervous while climbing up the little ladder. I was sitting above a tank of cold water waiting for someone to hit the target. Then finaly Tevita hit it. It was like a surprise falling down because you wouldn't have known when a person had hit the target. When I got out I wasn't really cold but I was really excited to go again. Out of the whole game I never got someone dunked but it was heaps of fun. This was one of my best camp Kindness highlight.

Hard Material at Tech

Walking into Mr Grundy's class made me feel like I was in college. Everyone had taken a seat. The class was very different. Instead of chairs we sat on stools at a big table with only four sides to sit on. The class wasn't the same as our regular classes.

Mr Grundy gave us a sheet of safety rules. We had to tick the boxes safe or not safe. This was so no one would get hurt while building or making something. The material that we use is wood. But before building we have to design.

Pakiri Beach

Running along white sand towards rough waves was really cool. But jumping into it was more fun. We were at Pakiri Beach jumping and swimming with big waves.It was me and my cousins. We were looking for a good spot where there were neat waves.

Camp Bentzon

One of my highlight for the camp at Kawau island for year 6 2009, Camp Bentzon was Mr Coop's food. Every day he would bake a whole lot of buns. It would be nice and hot , freshly baked and its taste would be yum . My favourite food that was made by Mr Coop was very delicous and it was Lasagne. For lunch we would have Hot dogs or Burgers.

At Camp Bentzon there are 4 groups . The 4 groups are called different names like Katz, Kawau, Bentzon and Mansion. In the groups there are A's and B's , Katz A & Katz B, Kawau A & Kawau B, Bentzon A & Bentzon B, Mansion A & Mansion B.The team I was in was Kawau B.

Video Conference With Hamish Campbell

On Wednesday the 5th of August at 9'am the extension group had a video conference with Hamish Campbell and also Diana-Grace. Hamish Campbell is a very famous Geologists in New Zealand. The reason for this conference is for us to learn about the Fiordland earthquake and more.

Hamish taught us a lot of interesting facts. There are a few that I remember. He told us that there are 2 kinds of plates called the "Pacific Plate " and " Australian Plate ". The earthquake was called Dusky Sound.

He explained to us how the earthquake happened. The 2 plates hit each other and pushed against the other one. It was meant to crash but instead the Pacific plate slid 5 meters under. The earthquake lasted for only 30 seconds.

He also told us about the earthquake that happened in 1976 in Tangshan, China. It only lasted for 15 seconds and was very huge. There was a big amount of people that had died during the earthquake. 242,000 people had died in a building.

Australian butterflies are often blown out to sea. They nearly always die because they sometimes fail because they don't reach the land.

There are other kinds of butterflies, like the red admiral butterfly. The red admiral butterfly is not only native to New Zealand. It is also found nowhere else naturally. The red admiral caterpillar also takes advantage of the toxic ongaonga. The food ongaonga is a vicious stinging plant that has been known to kill people and even horses. The brightly coloured stripes on the adult upper wings are another self-protecting feature.

Dinosaurs are very large lizards that used to live in certain places like forests and deserts. On the first day of term 2,we had immersion assembly. Immersion assembly is to find out what our topic for the whole term is. Mr Burt and the teachers were all dressed up in different costumes that was to do with our topic which was Dino-Might.Mr Burt Cracker the cave man. He had a very big cracker in his hand that he cracks pterodactyl or others for him to eat.

Dinosaurs are extinct creatures. Dinosaurs used to live in the time before humans. They lived near water and also lived on land. They lived until the end of the cretaceous period.

The first country I located was New Zealand,so it took me there through the Internet. While I was looking around in New Zealand I just found out that you do the street sight. Extension Learning

Yesterday at Extension we had to ask everyone in the group what was their favourite meal and also what their favourite dessert was. Well the most popular favourite meal was Burger King and the next favourite was a tie between Subway and Wendy's.

For the dessert, the things that had chocolate were the most favourite types of food. After we did the tally chart of the most favourite meals, we looked at a picture showing a range of bad food to good food. We had to put numbers on the most fatty food and the alright and also the very healthy food. Through that I found out that most people there liked unhealthy food!

Picnic

Yeah! We were going to the Pt England reserve for the school picnic. On Friday the 28th of February 2009 Pt England School went to the Reserve.

Rm 18 was the first class to leave the school to go to the Point England reserve. We got to the reserve by walking because it's not far from the school. When we got there we all had to sit down on the grass. Then Mr Burt told us the boundaries of where we were allowed to play and where we were not allowed to play.

When he told us all that we needed to know he let us go. So we went off with our teacher and found a spot for our class. Then we could do whatever. We could eat whenever or even play whatever.

Trip To Whangamata

In the holidays my family and I took a trip to Whangamata. The reason why we had to go there was to see our nephew because it was his birthday.

On our way to Whangamata , in one part we got up to a bridge called One Way Bridge, but we didn't cross the bridge as soon as we got there.For two hours we had to wait in the longest line I have ever seen. In the line there were over ninety cars waiting in line. Then we finally got to the bridge. While we crossed the bridge I could see a dirty river under the bridge flowing.

After we crossed the bridge we got to a little town. The town had only a few people. When we crossed the town we had to go a round a mountain, then another mountain. The roads on the mountain were very skinny and there were heaps of edges.

After the two mountains we finally got to Whangamata.

The Fly Away Umbrella

Mr Grace lived on a hill above a small town.Each day he would sit on his patio gazing at the birds flying around.One day it was very hot so Mr Grace decided to call Mr Santini.Mr Santini came in his shiny red truck driving up the hill.He went onto Mr Graces patio and put an umbrella up.Mr Santini told Mr Grace to hold the umbrella up while Mr Santini was putting the weight on the bottom.At that time it was a bit windy.While Mr Grace was holding the umbrella up the umbrella took of into the sky with Mr Grace.Mr Grace was a bit freaked out in the beggining of the time when he was on the umbrella.The wind was very strong and the umbrella went flying threw the town.

Shawn Johnson

I was watching Shawn Johnson competting in the Beijing Olympics.She was in the gymnastics when she was just running and she had bounced of the tramp and went straight onto the balance beam.She looked very focused and took her time .She put her hand out then she done a neat flip.
Shawn Johnson is a gymnast that never fears.She was born in West Des Monies 1992.At the age of three Shawn Johnson started doing gymnastics.At the moment she is 16.She's a gymnast that keeps her diet on track.In her ten minute brake she always ate her favorite fruit which are strawberry's.Her training is four hours a day.She does a 50min work out on each event like push-ups,sit ups and also squat jumps.
Shawn loved gymnastics that she always put more hours and learned more skills and concentrated.She listened to her coach and was never fearless.
She lets people vote for her on her website.She gets support by her family, fans and especially her coach.You can also vote for her T.V from the people who sponsor her.
Through her life there has been heaps of sacrifices.She couldn't spend much time with her family because she would be training most of the time.She doesn't only miss out time with her family but with friends.She misses time with friends going out at times.Shawn Johnson spends more time at the gym working out.

Nadia Comaneci

Nadia waited quietly and nervoussly.The crowd was silent looking on the board waiting for the score from Nadia's last routine but when the board had flashed a one the crowd went wild because Nadia had scored a perfect ten.
Nadia was born in Romania 1961.She had started gymnastics when she was six years old and won lots of medals in 1976 in the Montreal Olympics held in Canada.In the Montreal Olympics she won three gold medals,one silver and one bronze.She scored 7 10s in the Montreal Olympics and it was also the first time that anyone had scored a ten.The Moscow Olympics in Russia 1980 she got two gold medals and two silver.
She trained six days a week and four hours a day.She would go to the gym early and started to do her exercize again without complaining.She was a very energetic gymnast.She liked jumping and sprinting that she broke four of her couches by jumping on it and it broke the springs on the chair. She also had to watch her diet.Nadia had to have healthy food to be fit and to build her muscles.

Opening Ceremony

BOOM went the drums,2008 traditional drums and 2008 people playing on each of them wow!
In the very first beginning of the opening ceremony of the 2008 Olympics there were 2008 drums with the same amount of people playing on each of them.The suit that the drummers wore was orange white and a bit of red.The sound of the drums sounded like thunder making a perfect sound of drums.After a while the lights went of.It was amazing because red was the only light shining in the stadium.The drummers were using red glow sticks as a drum stick playing in the dark.if I was to be playing in the dark with a red glow stick I would be muddled up because I wouldn't know what to do and I wouldn't be able to See it as well.When the staidum went wild with cheering and there were no drums playing, fire works shot up on the sides surrounding us like roaring lions.I felt like it was a celebration going on around the city because there were heaps of fire works going by like a popping popcorn.The fire works went down the street second after second shaped as a foot print.There were twenty-nine foot it prints representing the twenty-ninth Olympic games.

Immersion Assembly

WOW! I walked into the hall and saw all the teachers dressed in sports costumes.When I was looking for Miss Squires I couldn't find her but when I saw the students from room15 I went and sat down next to them.There was someone next to them sitting on a chair with Afro hair and a basket ball suit holding a basket ball.I decided to look closer because I was thinking it was a real sport person.But when I looked closer Miss Squires dressed as Michael Jordon.

The teachers were all dressed up as Athletes because this term our topic is called "we are the champions".We are learning about the Olympics which are being held in Beijing in a few weeks.

In Assembly when it was term Four's turn to go up and show what their costumes were about it was like the book called "Who am I".This was because the teachers were talking a little bit about the person they were dressed as but they didn't tell the name of the person,we had to guess.I didn't see the other team's because I came to school late,so I could only watch team four.The first team four teacher was Mrs Nua.She was dressed as Irene Van Dyke.The next teacher was Mr Palmer,he was a Rugby player.Then it was the next teacher and she was dressed as a rugby player as well and it was Miss Langitupu.The last teacher was Miss Squires.I already knew what Miss Squires was, she was dressed as Michael Jordon.After team Four it was Mr Jacobson and Mr Burt.Mr Jacobson was a cycling person and his name was Cashy Luke's.Mr Burt was dressed as an equestrian and his name was Mark Todd.

Cross Country Training

This term team four have been cross country training.The track we have to run is not really long but if you do the course twice it will be half the track that we will have to run in the real cross country race.
When we start to run we begin running with our class.The classes start at different times.As we run we have been timed.When we have done the first round around the track we will see a chart with heaps of times.The chart is there so that we will know how long we took.

About Rarotonga

When I was 7 I was in New Zealand but before that I was in Rarotonga. In Rarotonga the beaches are beautiful and it is sometimes really hot. The sand is white and the sea is light blue.

The schools in Raro are sometimes strict but the primary schools are usually kind. They have easy work for the children . But once when I was at school the work we got was hard because it was a test. I felt a little bit funny but I got some of the work done.T he school in Raro I went to was called Akataimea.

In Raro things they sell are expensive. Some people they come to New Zealand to buy stuff because in New Zealand things are cheaper. Some come for a holiday then after their holiday they buy clothes and food to take to Raro when they go back. Sometimes my mum sends money to us through the bank. She sends it to us so we can by the things she wants. When we buy it we have to send it to Raro.

It was an agreement between the Maori people and the queen signed in the 1840's. We've also been writing about our goals in the future and our goals for in the class room.
